Lewis Shi, MD, is an orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in shoulder injuries and sports medicine. He has been practicing since 2012 and received his medical education from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Shi and a team of a researchers recently published in Science. Their publication, "Active Biointegrated Living Electronics for Managing Inflammation", details their creation, a prototype of their 'living bioelectronics', which is a combination of living cells, gel, and electronics that can integrate with living tissue. These prototype patches are made of sensors, bacterial cells, and a gel made from starch and gelatin. Tests were done with mice and produced results that found the devices could continuously monitor and improve psoriasis-like symptoms, without irritating skin.
